Speakers: Jeff Barnes, CEO of CafeFX, Co-Founder of The Computer Café Group Andrew Davis, Director ("The Fugitive") Douglas Hersh, Dean of Educational Programs–Technology, SBCC Richard Corwin, CEO Vital-Signz David Davis, Managing Partner Arpeggio Partners, LLC
When we think about the future of technology in filmmaking, the possibilities kindled in our imaginations can be endless. Things like spectacular special effects, HD and 3D projection systems are forever altering the creative landscape; rippling through the industry much like the tectonic shifts from silent to sound, and black & white to color during bygone eras.
Digital downloads of films and television programs reportedly surpassed the $1 billion mark in 2006, and the transition to digital distribution is poised to disrupt the home entertainment and motion picture exhibition arenas. This shift from the traditional model, which is reliant on physical goods such as film, has also enabled compelling cost reductions for both producers and distributors.
Please join us for our upcoming January 16th Central Coast MIT Enterprise Forum event to learn how some professionals have found success in this changing industry and alternatively why others have failed. Keynote speaker Jeff Barnes, Co-Founder of CaféFX, will shed some light on these topics along with an impressive panel of prominent players in the filmmaking trade. More information about this event.

Shopatron, Inc. 01-17-2007 5:15 pm - Cabrillo Arts Pavilion
Shopatron, Inc. (formerly FirePoppy)
Channel conflict has always been a problem for manufacturers and retailers. Small manufacturers especially don’t want to “go direct” and compete with their own retailers. These manufacturers’ websites won’t sell direct - they will only help you “find the retailer nearest you”. Using the Internet, Shopatron has developed a new business process, which has turned the fear of channel conflict into the force behind a new Manufacturer-to-Retailer channel. As a result, Shopatron’s business is surging.
Shopatron’s success has attracted larger manufacturers who deal with a full spectrum of retailers - “big box” to “mom & pop” stores. The Company now serves more than 250 manufacturers in 20 industries.
Shopatron has raised less than $1 million of angel equity and is growing at more than 100% annually.
Riggs Eckelberry of TechTransform will set the stage and discuss channel conflict in a keynote presentation. Ed Stevens, Founder & CEO of Shopatron, will present the Company’s strategy and growth plans. A panel including Riggs, Dave Gross of Great Pacific Capital and founder of FastClick, and Dorothy Pavloff of California Technology Ventures will critique the plan and offer their views on the Company’s business. The Long Tail: Web Enabled Niche Marketing & Services 10-18-2006 5:15 pm - Santa Barbara
The Long Tail: Web Enabled Niche Marketing & Services
Long Tail Markets are centered around an aggregation of products with low demand or low sales volume that can collectively make up a market share which rivals or exceeds the volume of the relatively few bestsellers or blockbusters in the marketplace. High costs have traditionally made producing, promoting and delivering the thousands and thousands of low grossing niche products and services financially unattractive, or even prohibitive. But now, by taking advantage of the Internet’s low-cost marketing and delivery capabilities, companies are able to profitably mine the “Long Tail” — a previously elusive, massive market of low-volume opportunities.
Our event will feature presentations by four emerging companies that are harnessing the dynamics of the “Long Tail” in their market sectors. They are Bigger Boat, Blue Lava, ThisNext, and Kevo.com. A panel discussion moderated by Henry Dubroff, Founder and Editor of the Pacific Coast Business Times, will follow the presentations.
